The Story of Jonah

Once there was a man named Jonah. God asked Jonah to do something very important: "Jonah, go to a big city called Nineveh and tell the people there to stop doing bad things." But Jonah didn’t want to go! He didn’t like the people in Nineveh, and he thought they wouldn't listen, so instead of obeying, Jonah ran away! He got on a ship that was sailing far, far away.

While Jonah was on the ship, a big storm came. The wind blew hard, and the waves crashed against the boat. Everyone was scared! They asked, "Why is this happening?" Jonah knew it was because he was running from God. He told the sailors, "If you throw me into the sea, the storm will stop." At first, they didn’t want to, but when the storm got worse, they gently tossed Jonah into the water. The storm stopped!

But Jonah didn’t sink! God sent a big fish (maybe like a whale) to swallow Jonah and keep him safe. Jonah was inside the fish for three days and three nights. While he was there, he prayed and said he was sorry. Then, the big fish spit Jonah out onto dry land!

This time, Jonah listened to God. He went to Nineveh and told the people, "You must change your ways!"  They listened! Everyone in Nineveh said sorry to God, and God forgave them. Jonah learnt that God loves everyone and gives people a second chance.
